Al-Hoda International School is seeking a competent and well-organised Science Laboratory Assistant to support practical work within the Middle Years Programme (MYP) and the school’s future Diploma Programme (DP).
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare materials, solutions, specimens and equipment for Biology, Chemistry and Physics practical work.
- Set up laboratories before lessons and ensure that equipment and materials are safely stored afterwards.
- Support teachers and students during practical activities while maintaining appropriate safety procedures.
- Maintain an accurate inventory of chemicals, equipment, glassware and consumable materials.
- Label, store and dispose of chemicals and laboratory waste safely.
- Inspect equipment regularly and report maintenance, replacement and purchasing needs.
- Maintain laboratory safety records, chemical registers and Safety Data Sheets.
- Assist teachers in assessing risks associated with practical activities.
- Keep laboratories, preparation rooms and storage areas safe, clean and well organised.
- Support the preparation of materials and equipment required for student-led scientific investigations.
Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Science, preferably Chemistry or a combined specialisation involving Chemistry, such as Physics–Chemistry, Microbiology–Chemistry, Biochemistry–Chemistry or Zoology–Chemistry.
- A minimum of two years’ relevant laboratory experience is preferred, particularly within a school, university or research laboratory.
- Sound knowledge of laboratory safety, chemical preparation and storage, equipment handling and waste disposal.
- Ability to support practical work across Biology, Chemistry and Physics.
- Good written and spoken English.
- Competence in Microsoft Office or Google Workspace for inventory and record-keeping.
- Experience in an international or IB school is desirable but not essential.
- First-aid, fire-safety or laboratory-safety training is an advantage.
