The MYP Biology Teacher is responsible for engaging students aged 14–16 in the study of living organisms, ecosystems, genetics, and biological processes through inquiry, conceptual understanding, and purposeful practical work, aligned with the International Baccalaureate Middle Years Programme (MYP). The role involves designing and delivering concept-based learning experiences, including well-structured laboratory investigations and real-world applications that directly support learning objectives, while fostering critical thinking, scientific inquiry, and environmental awareness. The teacher contributes to collaborative curriculum design, ensuring strong vertical and horizontal articulation, and supports the consistent implementation of MYP teaching and assessment practices.
Key Responsibilities:

- Guide safe, accurate, and ethical scientific investigations, including well-structured laboratory work aligned with learning objectives.
- Connect biological concepts to real-world applications (e.g. ecology, human health, genetics, and conservation).
- Plan and deliver inquiry-driven Biology teaching aligned with MYP 1–3 objectives.
- Differentiate instruction to support diverse learners and promote student agency.
- Design, review, and refine curriculum collaboratively, ensuring strong vertical and horizontal articulation.
- Integrate global contexts, ATL skills, and interdisciplinary learning experiences.
- Ensure curriculum coherence and consistent assessment practices across the Science team.
- Maintain laboratory safety and manage resources effectively.
- Prepare and submit lesson plans in line with school expectations and timelines.
- Document teaching, learning, and assessment on school platforms in line with programme requirements.
- Assess using MYP criteria and provide timely, constructive feedback.
- Write detailed, personalized student reports and maintain accurate, up-to-date records of grades and assessment data in line with school timelines and requirements.
- Analyse assessment data to identify trends, inform instructional decisions, and support student progress.
- Promote a positive school culture, including academic honesty and responsible use of sources.
- Support and engage in Service as Action (SaA) and wider school initiatives.
- Engage in professional development and contribute to ongoing MYP implementation.
Requirements
Education

- A bachelor’s degree in medicine or related field
- IB recognised subject-specific workshops (preferred).
Experience
-
- 3+ Years experience teaching Biology at the secondary school level.
- 1+ Years experience teaching Science or Biology in the MYP or DP

- Strong understanding of MYP philosophy, concept-based teaching, and assessment methodology.
- Expertise in designing engaging, hands-on Biology lessons, including effective laboratory experiences aligned with learning objectives.
