The Lower MYP English Language & Literature Teacher is responsible for engaging students aged 11–13 in the study of language, literary texts, and media through inquiry, conceptual understanding, and purposeful analytical work, aligned with the International Baccalaureate Middle Years Programme (MYP). The role involves designing and delivering concept-based learning experiences, including well-structured textual investigations and real-world applications that directly support learning objectives, while nurturing foundational literacy skills, a love of reading, personal voice in writing, and confidence in oral communication. The teacher contributes to collaborative curriculum design, ensuring strong vertical and horizontal articulation, and supports the consistent implementation of MYP teaching and assessment practices.
Key Responsibilities:

- Build foundational literacy skills by introducing students to a variety of text types, genres, and forms across literary and non-literary contexts.
- Develop students’ early analytical, reading, and response writing skills through scaffolded, inquiry-based learning experiences.
- Nurture a love of reading, personal voice in writing, and confidence in oral communication.
- Introduce and apply MYP assessment criteria in an accessible and age-appropriate way, supporting students in understanding expectations progressively.
- Connect language and literature concepts to real-world applications (e.g. media literacy, storytelling, cultural awareness).
- Plan and deliver inquiry-driven English Language & Literature teaching aligned with MYP 1–3 objectives.
- Differentiate instruction to support diverse learners and promote student agency.
- Design, review, and refine curriculum collaboratively, ensuring strong vertical and horizontal articulation.
- Integrate global contexts, ATL skills, and interdisciplinary learning experiences.
- Ensure curriculum coherence and consistent assessment practices across the English team.
- Prepare and submit lesson plans in line with school expectations and timelines.
- Document teaching, learning, and assessment on school platforms in line with programme requirements.
- Assess using MYP criteria and provide timely, constructive feedback.
- Write detailed, personalized student reports and maintain accurate, up-to-date records of grades and assessment data in line with school timelines and requirements.
- Analyse assessment data to identify trends, inform instructional decisions, and support student progress.
- Promote a positive school culture, including academic honesty and responsible use of sources.
- Support and engage in Service as Action (SaA) and wider school initiatives.
- Uphold and actively implement school safeguarding policies in all aspects of the role.
- Engage in professional development and contribute to ongoing MYP implementation.
Requirements
Education

- Bachelor’s degree in English Language, Literature, or a related field.
- IB recognised subject-specific workshops (preferred).
Experience
-
- Minimum 3 years proven experience teaching English at the middle school level.
- Experience with the IB MYP framework is a must.
