The MYP Individuals and Societies Teacher is responsible for engaging students in the study of historical, geographical, cultural, political, and economic concepts through inquiry, conceptual understanding, and purposeful analytical work, aligned with the International Baccalaureate Middle Years Programme (MYP). The role involves designing and delivering concept-based learning experiences, including well-structured investigations and real-world applications that directly support learning objectives, while fostering critical thinking, global awareness, and an understanding of the relationships between individuals, societies, and the world they inhabit. The teacher contributes to collaborative curriculum design, ensuring strong vertical and horizontal articulation, and supports the consistent implementation of MYP teaching and assessment practices.
Key Responsibilities:
- Guide students in the investigation and analysis of historical, geographical, cultural, political, and economic concepts through structured, inquiry-based learning experiences.
- Connect I&S concepts to real-world applications (e.g. global issues, current events, sustainability, human rights, and civic responsibility).
- Plan and deliver inquiry-driven Individuals and Societies teaching aligned with MYP objectives across all year levels.
- Differentiate instruction to support diverse learners and promote student agency.
- Design, review, and refine curriculum collaboratively, ensuring strong vertical and horizontal articulation.
- Integrate global contexts, ATL skills, and interdisciplinary learning experiences.
- Ensure curriculum coherence and consistent assessment practices across the I&S team.
- Prepare and submit lesson plans in line with school expectations and timelines.
- Document teaching, learning, and assessment on school platforms in line with programme requirements.
- Assess using MYP criteria and provide timely, constructive feedback.
- Write detailed, personalized student reports and maintain accurate, up-to-date records of grades and assessment data in line with school timelines and requirements.
- Analyse assessment data to identify trends, inform instructional decisions, and support student progress.
- Promote a positive school culture, including academic honesty and responsible use of sources.
- Support and engage in Service as Action (SaA) and wider school initiatives.
- Uphold and actively implement school safeguarding policies in all aspects of the role.
- Engage in professional development and contribute to ongoing MYP implementation.
Requirements
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field
- IB recognised subject-specific workshops (preferred).
Experience:
- Minimum of 3 years proven experience teaching Individuals and Societies or related subjects at the middle school level.
- Experience with the IB MYP framework.

- Strong understanding of MYP philosophy, concept-based teaching, and assessment methodology.
- Expertise in designing engaging, inquiry-driven I&S lessons that develop students’ understanding of historical, geographical, cultural, political, and economic concepts.
