MYP Science teacher

When: Next academic year 2026/27

The MYP Science Teacher is responsible for engaging students aged 11–13 in the study of biological, chemical, and physical concepts through inquiry, conceptual understanding, and purposeful practical work, aligned with the International Baccalaureate Middle Years Programme (MYP). The role involves designing and delivering concept-based learning experiences across the disciplines of biology, chemistry, and physics, including well-structured laboratory investigations and real-world applications that directly support learning objectives, while fostering critical thinking, scientific inquiry, and environmental responsibility. The teacher contributes to collaborative curriculum design, ensuring strong vertical and horizontal articulation, and supports the consistent implementation of MYP teaching and assessment practices.

Key Responsibilities:

    • Guide safe, accurate, and ethical scientific investigations across biology, chemistry, and physics, including well-structured laboratory work aligned with learning objectives.
    • Instruct students in the proper and responsible use of laboratory equipment and ensure all safety procedures are followed at all times.
    • Connect scientific concepts to real-world applications (e.g. environment, health, technology, and sustainability).
    • Plan and deliver inquiry-driven Science teaching aligned with MYP 1–3 objectives.
    • Differentiate instruction to support diverse learners and promote student agency.
    • Design, review, and refine curriculum collaboratively, ensuring strong vertical and horizontal articulation.
    • Integrate global contexts, ATL skills, and interdisciplinary learning experiences.
    • Ensure curriculum coherence and consistent assessment practices across the Science team.
    • Prepare and submit lesson plans in line with school expectations and timelines.
    • Document teaching, learning, and assessment on school platforms in line with programme requirements.
    • Assess using MYP criteria and provide timely, constructive feedback.
    • Write detailed, personalized student reports and maintain accurate, up-to-date records of grades and assessment data in line with school timelines and requirements.
    • Analyse assessment data to identify trends, inform instructional decisions, and support student progress.
    • Promote a positive school culture, including academic honesty and responsible use of sources.
    • Support and engage in Service as Action (SaA) and wider school initiatives.
    • Engage in professional development and contribute to ongoing MYP implementation.

Requirements

Education

    • A bachelor’s degree in science, pharmacy or dentistry
    • IB recognised subject-specific workshops (preferred).

Experience

    • Proven experience teaching Science at the middle school level.
    • Experience with the IB MYP framework is highly desirable.
    • Experience in an international school environment.

Skills and Abilities

    • Strong understanding of MYP philosophy, concept-based teaching, and assessment methodology.
    • Expertise in designing engaging, hands-on Science lessons across biology, chemistry, and physics, including effective laboratory experiences aligned with learning objectives.
    • Strong laboratory skills, with the ability to plan, manage, and facilitate safe, purposeful practical work across multiple scientific disciplines.
    • Ability to design meaningful learning activities and real-world applications that directly support conceptual understanding and MYP objectives.
    • Excellent communication, organization, and collaboration skills, with a strong commitment to teamwork.
    • Commitment to fostering scientific inquiry, academic honesty, ethical awareness, and environmental responsibility.
    • Proficiency in using educational technology and digital learning tools to enhance teaching and learning.
